20 canyons.
-
n/aBoggera (Upper)
Boggera runs long and slide heavy, thirty five rappels over five to eight hours, with the middle section reduced to stagnant pools in a normal summer. When neighboring canyons blow out from rain, this one still goes.
Unknown flood -
n/aCombra
Combra runs alpine and cold: three to nine rappels of clear meltwater, longest 30 meters, fed by a north facing basin. The finish tangles into a boulder field where the exit moves are easy to lose.
Malvaglia, TI Unknown flood -
n/aCosta
Twenty one hundred meters of canyon and 515 meters of elevation loss make Costa a long day, anchored by a 60 meter rappel; six to seven hours from entry to exit.
Unknown flood -
n/aCramosina (Upper)
While the lower part was known since long time ago, the crazy upper part has only been discovered since a few years. Integrale is one of the toughest canyons of the alps.
Unknown flood -
n/aFroda (Lower)
The lower run on Ri della Froda packs fourteen rappels into a half mile of granite, longest drop 120 meters; count on seven to eight hours between the Biasca trailhead and the exit, June through September.
Biasca, TI Unknown flood -
n/aFroda (Middle)
Above the lower run, Froda's middle segment continues through the same half mile stretch of granite to another 120 meter rappel; budget seven to eight hours car to car.
Biasca, TI Unknown flood -
n/aFroda (Upper)
Froda's upper segment runs about 1200 meters end to end per ropewiki, dropping 300 meters through a single notable 60 meter rappel; figure five hours out of Biasca. Season here runs later than the segments below, August into October.
Biasca, TI Unknown flood -
n/aIragna (Middle)
Four rappels carry Iragna's middle run through two thirds of a mile of granite toward the village, longest drop 50 meters; figure about seven hours car to car, July through September.
Iragna, TI Unknown flood -
n/aIragna (Upper)
Water moves through Iragna's upper canyon year round, so check the flow before committing to four rappels that top out around 40 meters. Wetsuits are standard kit here.
Iragna, TI Unknown flood -
n/aLodrino (Lower)
Not a trip for inexperienced parties: Lodrino's lower canyon carries real flow through technical terrain almost the whole way, fourteen rappels topping out at 60 meters over three to four hours, August into September only.
Lodrino, TI Unknown flood -
n/aLodrino (Middle)
Lodrino's middle segment is short and rappel dense: forty five rappels across roughly 900 meters and about two hours car to car, longest drop 60 meters.
Lodrino, TI Unknown flood -
n/aMalvaglia (Lower)
Malvaglia's lower canyon mixes jumps, slides, and rappels through moving water over ten drops, longest 50 meters; flow runs year round but drops low in dry spells, and wetsuits are standard kit. Plan on about two hours.
Malvaglia, TI Unknown flood -
n/aMoleno
Moleno's put in sits at 964 meters, above the shorter, better known lower stretch, which turns this into a full day of canyoneering rather than a quick outing; plan on five hours, summer season only.
Moleno, TI Unknown flood -
n/aOsogna (Lower)
Eleven rappels, longest 60 meters, fit into a third of a mile at Osogna's lower canyon. Call OFIBLE, rappel, call again, and you're done in about three hours, June through September.
Osogna, TI Unknown flood -
n/aOsogna (Middle)
Locals and ropewiki both know this one as Nala. Osogna's middle canyon runs just over a mile with an hour to ninety minutes of approach before the rappelling starts, longest drop 35 meters; five to six hours total, same OFIBLE call in and out as the lower canyon, June through September.
Osogna, TI Unknown flood -
n/aPiumogna (Lower)
Piumogna's lower canyon starts with a stout climb, about 400 meters of elevation gain over an hour to ninety minutes, before three to four hours of gneiss narrows anchored by a 60 meter rappel. The exit is quick, just a few minutes back to the trailhead.
Unknown flood -
n/aPontirone (Lower)
Pontirone's lower run opens wide before narrowing into white and gray granite: a 20 meter rappel drops into a 45 meter follow up that lands you in the gorge proper, then a string of shorter drops and a final downclimb carry you out almost before you notice.
Unknown flood -
n/aPontirone (Upper)
A mile and a half of the same granite drainage as the lower canyon below, longest rappel 35 meters; plan on five hours car to car, June through September.
Unknown flood -
n/aTicinetto (Middle)
Five minutes in, two hours of rappelling capped at 30 meters, twenty minutes out: Ticinetto's middle run covers 600 meters start to finish.
Unknown flood -
n/aUsèdi (Upper)
One of the longest canyons of the alps, most certainly the longest if you count Barougia that follows just afterwards.
