San Luis Potosi
9 canyons.
-
—Cascada de Tamul
At 105m (345ft) tall, this is the highest waterfall in the state of San Luis Potosi and one of the most beautiful in Mexico, for its height and its famously crystalline torquoise water. Formed by the waters of the Gallinas River at its confluence with the Tampaon, Tamul Falls cascade into the Tampaon River.
Unknown flood -
—Cascadas Micos
This is a great canyoneering route with nine waterfalls that can all be jumped. Hence, most people will prefer to leave technical gear in the car and enjoy the freedom of descending a canyon without ropes.
Unknown flood -
3BCueva de Oxtalja
Neat river cave located in a large dolina SW of the town of Tamapatz. The cave has some really nice flowstone and rimstone dam formations and is pretty mud-free except for the very end near the sump.
Unknown flood -
4AHoya de la Luz
Some say this pit located near Xilitla is one of the best caves in North America. It is definitely a very unique pit, with a jungle with 100ft tall trees at the bottom and couple waterfalls around the walls.
Unknown flood -
4AHoya de las Guaguas
This is one of the 'classic' pits in the region. Like Golondrinas, it hosts a large population of Huahuas (Green Parrots).
Unknown flood -
—Puente de Dios (Tamasopo)
El Puente de Dios is a fantastic swimming hole 2 miles northwest of the town of Tamasopo. It consists of waterfalls into a narrow gorge and cavern beneath an arch through which the Gallinas river runs rapidly.
Unknown flood -
4ASotano de Cepillo
This is a scenic pit located at the edge of pasture fields near the town of Tamapatz. At 128m deep, this is a great warm up pit for the much deeper Sótano de las Golondrinas.
Unknown flood -
4ASotano de las Golondrinas
Named after the birds (Glondrinas = Swallows) that nest in the walls of the cave and at 370 meter (1,214 ft), this is one of the largest known cave shaft in the world. This legendary pit is large enough to completely swallow the Empire State Building.
Unknown flood -
3B RSotano del Arroyo
This is a fantastic pit cave with extensive borehole passage with lots of formations and multiple drops. The highlight of the cave is an underground methane rich lake full of blind fish, which usually marks the turn around point for most trips.
