Waterpocket Fold
10 canyons.
-
n/a...must be on dope
A Waterpocket Fold route known only by its two names, this one and Inherently Dangerous. The RopeWiki entry carries coordinates and a permit flag and nothing else: no rappel count, no length, no descent beta.

3ACheerio ChumpUnknown flood
-
n/aGlutton For Punishment
Beginning with a dramatic dark slot and finishing with an "endless" series of potholes. This canyon showed signs of an early descent.
Unknown flood -
2BHalls Creek Narrows
Capitol Reef's southern narrows, at the far end of the Waterpocket Fold: the park's own route from Halls Creek Overlook runs 22 miles round trip and it recommends three to four days for it. Graded 2B, so wading and possible swims, no rope.
Unknown flood -
n/aHeadquarters Canyon
A 2.4 mile out and back off the Notom road that gives up a short, deep, sinuous slot without asking for rope or technique. Easy walking the whole way until a moderately hard upclimb near the end.
Unknown flood -
n/aMuley Twist Canyon
Not a slot in the technical sense: 16.5 miles of deep, meandering wash cut clean through the Waterpocket Fold, walkable end to end with no rope. Rated 1A, and the park lists it as either a long day or an overnight depending on which trailhead you start from.
Unknown flood -
3ANot Too TightUnknown flood
-
3BRotary Dial Canyon
Twelve plus rappels, none longer than 50 feet, and not one of them is the hard part. What makes this canyon are the potholes, the stemming, the partner captures, and the fact that nobody has left any hardware behind.
Unknown flood -
3ASaddle SoreUnknown flood
-
3BStrike 2 Canyon
Short and top heavy: 1.4 miles of canyon holding a 200 foot rappel, which is most of why the day still runs three to six hours. The stemming is above water for a good part of it, which some parties find reassuring and some do not.
