Strike 2 Canyon

verified ACA 3B Unknown flood risk

Short and top heavy: 1.4 miles of canyon holding a 200 foot rappel, which is most of why the day still runs three to six hours. The stemming is above water for a good part of it, which some parties find reassuring and some do not.

Three rappels, the longest 200 feet, so bring rope for that and expect the rigging to eat the clock on a route this short. RopeWiki lists a shuttle as required, so sort the second car before you drive out. Some beta says no permit is needed. That is wrong: Capitol Reef requires a free permit for any and all canyoneering inside the park boundary, with an eight person cap, available at the visitor center self serve kiosk or by emailing care_permits@nps.gov. New fixed anchors and power drills are prohibited park wide.
