Surefire

verified Ungraded Unknown flood risk Lithgow, NSW

First descended on 23 October 1976 by Tom Williams, Dave Noble, Tony Haigh, and Ted Daniels, after an earlier attempt was scrubbed by heavy rain. The name comes from Williams calling it a surefire canyon before anyone had actually been down it. Track notes for the approach and descent are thin online; the one detail on record is the historic exit, where the first party prussiked up a log wedged in the final waterfall to reach easier ground on the Western Branch.
