Paraiso Escondido
Paraiso Escondido cuts through volcanic breccia with mossy green walls and four to six bolted rappels depending on the season, the biggest a 72 foot drop through a waterfall. The water runs cold year round, and the source calls for a wetsuit with a hood and booties in winter.
The canyon used to start with a few smaller rappels, but those bolts were pulled, and someone spray painted a rappelling prohibited warning at the old anchor; entry is now the 20 meter rappel at the canyon edge. No car shuttle is needed, and there is one clear escape after the first narrows for parties who want out early. In the dry season, when the roped traverse (the pasamanos) is not needed, the source rates this canyon a more modest 3B with no added risk suffix; the rating on file here reflects the harder rainy season conditions.
