Cold, technical, and serious: a run of waterfalls in black gneiss below the Ecrins, first descended 26 October 1991. The next to last drop lands in a churning pool that RopeWiki's trip notes say must be crossed hand over hand on the rope, timed so the current doesn't sweep you into the following fall.
Two escapes exist near the 40 meter rappel, one just before it and one just after via a grassy ledge, both described as delicate. The water is glacier fed and stays extremely cold even in the recommended October and November window: full wetsuit, hood, and gloves are the baseline kit.
