Hole in the Wall

Lithgow, NSW
One of the more popular canyons on the Newnes Plateau, with well marked tracks in and out. The payoff is the lower section: five rappels, a tunnel swim, glow worms, and narrow twisting corridors in the dark.
Budget most of a day: about 6.5 kilometres each way just to reach and leave the creek. After the last rappel you swim through the actual hole in the wall the canyon is named for, emerging into the Bungleboori North Branch. Go left and head upstream from there for the roughly 7 kilometre walk back to the car park.
