Heart Attack Canyon

Heart Attack Canyon opens with one of the longest abseil entrances in the area, anywhere from a 10 metre drop to a rigged 43 metre one depending on where you get into the creek, then continues with two to six rappels, the longest around 37 metres.

The name has nothing to do with the canyon itself: it comes from a phone call about a heart attack that came through on the Friday night before the first recorded descent in January 1976. Entry pitch length depends on exactly where you drop into the creek, so scout your line rather than assume a fixed abseil. Expect a few tricky climb downs between rappels, and exit upstream along the river fork that comes in from the left.
