Chiflon Integral

verified ACA 3B R High flood risk Agua Blanca de Iturbide, Hidalgo

The granddaddy canyon of Hidalgo: roughly 26 rappels and miles of swift water through the Otomi Tepehua range, broken into named sections so smaller teams can do parts.

Approach is short (5 minutes from the road) but the descent is committing. The exit at the bottom comes out at a popular swimming hole and small cantina that serves fresh fish. Hub town Agua Blanca de Iturbide is the staging base for the regional canyons (Monroy, San Martin, Camino Real, Boca de Santo, Chifloncito). The Mexican canyoneering grade v5a4 IV captures the technical commitment more precisely than the ACA approximation; carry the rope and pull setup for 170 ft worst case.
