Trachyte Point Canyon

One of the dozen or so east side tributaries of Trachyte Creek below Trachyte Point, graded 2A, so downclimbing and cross country navigation rather than rope work.

Names in this drainage do not line up between sources, and sorting that out is worth doing before you drive. RopeWiki keeps Trachyte Point Canyon and Trachyotomy as separate pages, while The American Southwest uses Trachyte Point Canyon for the slot canyoneers call Witch's Cauldron or Trachyotomy, and North Trachyte Point Canyon for the drainage north of it, which some people call Munchkin. If someone hands you beta under any of these names, check the coordinates. Access to the whole cluster is either a walk east from the Maidenwater Spring parking area on UT 276, roughly 10 miles round trip, or a rough sandy track southeast across the Trachyte Point plateau that cuts it to about 5. The high cliffs around North Wash rule out any approach from the east. RopeWiki carries no approach, descent, or exit description for this entry at all, so treat the grade as the only thing anyone has written down about it.
