The iconic South African kloofing route, a one-way swim and jump descent through the Hottentots Holland sandstone with a culminating leap that gives the gorge its name.
The route enters the kloof off the Landdroskop Jeep Track and exits at Nuweberg. Stated jump heights vary across operators and CapeNature publications: CapeNature lists the maximum at 14 m; commercial operators including Absolute Adventures quote 14 m as the mandatory ceiling; some trip reports mention up to 20 m for optional leaps further down. Treat the 14 m number as the published mandatory max. Guided trips from Cape Town run roughly R2,550 per person including permit and gear. Pair with Riviersonderend as a less-committing alternative in the same reserve.

| Technical | Kloofing route in the local sense, an Afrikaans/SA hybrid of canyoneering that emphasises mandatory water jumps over rappels. The Suicide Gorge descent strings together a series of forced jumps into pools, ranging from 3 m to a culminating 14 m to 20 m plunge depending on which source is read. The 7 m jump is the highest that cannot be downclimbed and is non-negotiable; the higher jumps further down the kloof can be skipped only by those willing to commit since reversing or escaping the kloof is not practical. Continuous swimming through cold, mossy pools between jumps. No abseils on the standard route. Light footwear, wetsuit, and dry bag are standard kit. |
