Stewart Falls
Class C water on the Wasatch Front, finishing with a 230 foot rappel down Stewart Falls into whatever crowd of day hikers is standing at the base.
The last two rappels are the ones to plan around. Hikers gather at the bottom of Stewart Falls and you can see them from the rope, so do not throw ropes or rope bags; rappel with the bag and deploy only once you have clear line of sight. Rockfall is the hazard, and it is aimed at people who are not in your party. Approach runs about 2.1 miles, starting on the Stewart Cascades Trail and branching onto the Big Provo Cirque Trail roughly 1.4 miles in, near 40.39013, -111.60137. That second trail is largely unmaintained and bushwhacking is expected; carrying pruners and clearing as you go is the local habit. Rappel count runs four to seven depending on how far upstream you start. The Aspen Grove approach crosses the Alpine Loop tollbooth at $6 per vehicle for a three day pass, while parking at Sundance is free.
Logistics
