Also logged as Newnes Canyon, Starlight opens with a 25 metre abseil off a dead sassafras tree, then works through a dark, narrow section with a couple of tricky 2 metre downclimbs.
From the campsite at the road's end, walk 1.5 kilometres downstream along the left bank to reach the entrance. The dark section is the crux to watch: it can fill with water in wet conditions, and the narrow parts are prone to getting blocked with sand, so check recent conditions and daylight left before committing. No permit needed for the Wollemi National Park access here.
