Smith Fork Canyon
Long stretches of narrows that never quite pinch to a slot, plus side canyons and good primitive camping, on a route Road Trip Ryan calls one of the most overlooked narrow canyon hikes around.
Rated 2A, but two short sections of fifth class climbing decide whether your group gets through: one about 10 feet, one about 14 feet, both described as class 4 or easy fifth. A 33 foot rope covers them and is worth carrying for packs even if everyone can climb. Water is normally minimal, with knee deep wading possible after rain, and flash flood risk is moderate. Road Trip Ryan puts the trip at roughly 6.8 miles and 4 to 6 hours. This is the drainage that Psycho D and Pothoez drop into, so parties can appear above you. The camping is the reason to treat it as an overnight rather than a rushed day.
