Sistema de La Lucha

Sistema de la Lucha is within the Selva del Mercadito and not far from the town of La Lucha. The cave is 1300 meters long, with formations and blind fish, and leads to the bottom of the sotano, which is 240 meters deep and located at about the halfway point (see cave map).

Reaching it means a water taxi from Raudales de Malpaso to Agua Blanca, then hiring a local guide, since separate trails lead to the resurgence entrance and to the pit entrance (ask specifically for el sotano). No guide in Agua Blanca means a two hour hike on to La Lucha to find one. The approach is long enough that most parties overnight in the jungle, and camping inside the cave itself is discouraged since it has flooded even when there was no local rain.
