Sapounas

Unknown flood risk
Agios Ioannis, Chania
A brutally steep Sfakia line that loses 743 m in barely a kilometre of canyon, wrapped in a nine to ten hour day of approach and exit.
Also published as Canyon de Sapounas. Data quality caveat: ropewiki lists the identical coordinate pair for both Sapounas and the neighbouring Sfakohonos, so treat the position as approximate for at least one of the two. The Samaria National Park authority states that all those who wish to walk beyond the main footpath require a special licence, and this canyon lies in the Sfakia municipality in that massif, but park boundary status is unconfirmed. Ropewiki has no condition report and a blank red tape field.

| Technical | Ropewiki publishes no difficulty rating, rappel data or rock type, so the grade is null. The published shape is a short but very steep line: only 1000 m of canyon against 743 m of vertical relief, with a 2.5 hr approach and a 3.5 hr exit bracketing four hours of descent. No shuttle. |
