Sandbach

verified Ungraded Unknown flood risk Grindelwald, BE

One of the deepest slots in the region for how small its catchment is, known locally as the Eigerwandschlucht, dropping 250m in 500m of canyon.

The lower half is narrower than the numbers suggest and harder for it. Snow bridges in the upper section can collapse underfoot, and the drainage sits right below the Eiger's north face, so avalanche debris is a real hazard early in the season.

Logistics

PermitRopewiki lists no red tape for this descent, but Swiss canyoning access is cantonal and this has not been confirmed with an official authority.
