Pearson Canyon
Five thousand feet of descent in about five miles with no trail to speak of, ending on a rappel near 240 feet, which is not something you expect to find on the Wasatch Front.
Access is the crux before the canyon is. Leave a car at the base, then drive up to Inspiration Point from Mantua. Before July 15 the gate is closed and may be locked, which adds roughly four miles of climbing on foot. The descent is loose rock and steep ground long before the first optional rappel, so this is a day that punishes ankles and legs rather than rope skills. Budget at least 45 minutes to get out after the final rappel, through many downclimbs and small stream crossings. Parking at the bottom means finding something considerate in or near the South Willard neighborhood.
