Ogliana di Quarata

verified Ungraded Unknown flood risk Trontano, VB

Moss covered boulders, tea colored water, and algae darkened pools above Trontano, with a 65 foot slide that starts at a low angle before dropping into free fall and a 42 foot jump near the second or third drop. Twenty three rappels over five to six hours.

The walking approach follows a path through San Lorenzo, Cacciolo, and Mura to the small bridge at Ogliana di Quarata, a long steep climb with valley views the whole way. Route finding aside, expect plenty of nuisance rappels mixed in with the good ones, plus tree debris in the drainage. This one does not compare to the Ticino classics and will test the patience of parties who hate that kind of grind, but the payoff is a local swimming hole at the finish.
