Novarza (Upper)

One of the more demanding combinations in Friuli: Torrente Pieltinis drops steeply into Novarza Superiore, which narrows into a corridor of delicate cascades and turbulent pools equipped with fixed hand lines, before ending in a swim across an artificial lake.

Checking the water level before dropping in is mandatory; Novarza Superiore carries heavy flow most of the year, which is why the first descent wasn't made until November. There is no viable exit once committed: RopeWiki lists the escape option as none evident until the canyon reaches the lake at the very end. Expect a 34 meter waterfall along the way and a shuttle of about 30 minutes.
