Not Again Canyon

verified ACA 3A Moderate flood risk Beechmont, QLD

Volcanic conglomerate canyon in the Gold Coast hinterland with a 28 m main pitch and tricky rope retrieval. The name comes from repeated equipment-recovery incidents during its development.

Alternative name Charraboomba Creek Canyon. The Brisbane hinterland canyoning scene is documented largely through the now-archived Vertical Adventurer blog. Several nearby canyons (Black Canyon QLD, Coomera Canyon) are explicitly prohibited by Queensland Parks and Forests; this one appears to be open per ropewiki but verify current QPWS rules before any trip. The main pitch chockstone has caused multiple stuck-rope incidents.

PermitNo permit listed on ropewiki. Some adjacent canyons in QPWS land are explicitly off-limits (Black Canyon and Coomera Canyon both prohibited with substantial fines); verify current QPWS policy for Charraboomba Creek before committing.
TimeHalf day
TechnicalFour to eight rappels through volcanic conglomerate, longest pitch 92 ft. The main 28 m anchor sits above a chockstone that catches ropes; strong natural-anchor skills required because the anchor is a tree and the chockstone fouls retrieval. Inescapable once committed past the main pitch. Rough slides exist along the descent. Crayfish in the pools below the main pitch. Native grade v3a1 III; ropewiki publishes ACA 3A.
SeasonAfter rain. Brisbane winter and spring (Jun to Nov) are the preferred window.
Flood riskModerate. Seasonal creek but volcanic substrate; check gauges and avoid post-storm descents.
CrowdLight. Brisbane canyoning is a small community and access here is non-trivial.
