No Kidding

verified Ungraded Unknown flood risk Hanksville, UT

Three potential keeper potholes inside four tenths of a mile of canyon, which is why the gear note here is pot shots and a sand trap rather than anything about rope length.

A 2018 trip report gives the shape of a normal day: six rappels and two partner assists, the first three off sandtrap, the bottom three off pot shots for an easier pull, nothing in keeper mode, one pothole escape that needed a pack toss, bone dry throughout. Ten minute approach, three hours in the canyon, 40 minutes out. That party judged the R rating unwarranted on the day, which is exactly the sort of thing that changes with water. The exit climbs a gully with a fourth class move at the top; veer right at a cairn about two thirds of the way up to avoid it. Same exit as the rest of the West Butler group, so it stacks well with neighboring canyons in one day.
