Montezuma Canyon

verified ACA 4B Unknown flood risk Ticaboo, UT

You are in the canyon within a hundred yards of the car, and out the bottom via a rappel of roughly 260 to 270 feet, the longest on Ticaboo Mesa.

Every anchor in here is one you build: cairns set in water, meat anchors, deadman anchors, sandtraps, and possibly a water anchor. Bring the kit and the practice with it. The lower half is the payoff, a double arch room and dark twisty narrows with a pothole or two depending on recent water. There is a shortcut exit partway down using an ascent line off a flake near 37.6515, -110.5575, which wants at least 120 feet of rope. The canyon was called East of Eden before the area names were standardized, so older beta uses that name.
