Llewellyn Gulch
Begins as sandy wash under the 1,500 foot cliffs of Fiftymile Point, tightens into more than a mile of narrow orange passage, then opens into a sheer red gorge with a clear stream running down to Lake Powell.
Three miles to the end of the narrows by the cattle path, roughly six to the lake. The obstacles are a few dryfalls and chockstones to downclimb, and several of the upper ones can be bypassed, so this reads as moderate rather than technical. The drive is the filter: 50.5 miles down Hole-in-the-Rock Road to the Davis Gulch crossing, with sections toward the end that may want 4WD, then two miles of slickrock walking south. Most of the traffic in the lower canyon arrives by boat off Lake Powell and turns around at the first obstacle in the middle section, which is why the narrows stay quiet. This is Glen Canyon NRA ground and not monument ground, so check backcountry rules with the Escalante Interagency Visitor Center rather than assuming BLM day use rules carry over.
