Little Death Hollow
Over two miles of narrow, twisting Wingate passage in the lower half, reached after a long open walk, on the quiet east side of the Escalante.
Access is 19 miles east from Boulder on the Burr Trail, then due south on the unpaved Wolverine Loop Road about 12 miles to an official trailhead with a hike register; the road may want high clearance. In dry weather the narrows hold few real obstacles, which is exactly what makes this a walking canyon and also what pulls unequipped parties in when the pools are up. Do not enter right after heavy rain. Most people link it with Horse Canyon and Wolverine as a two or three day loop, which is where the free self issue overnight permit comes in; RopeWiki's 8 to 48 hour range is really the day hike against the loop. Note that this is the small Death Hollow: the other one, north of Escalante town, is a different and far more serious trip.
