La Barranca runs a dark, cavern like gorge with twelve to sixteen rappels split into an upper and lower section, plus a scattering of jumps and one standout slide. Most parties end at the Puente de Dios tourist site, though the technical upper section alone makes a shorter day.
An early exit trail meets the canyon at a concrete footbridge about a quarter of the way down, so the upper technical section alone, roughly 2.25 hours of rope work, can be a shorter day with no vehicle shuttle needed. Bolts on the upper section were replaced in November 2024. Continuing to Puente de Dios means paying to see the cave at the bottom regardless of which trail is used back, and hiring a local for a truck shuttle to Pinal de Amoles is common practice.
