Kanarra Creek
A wade up a creek to a waterfall climbed on a custom aluminum staircase, ticketed and capped daily, run by the town of Kanarraville rather than by a federal agency.
The technical canyon above is closed, and it is not a grey area. That upper descent sits on private land that has been fenced, gated, and posted; the last party through got lost and needed rescuing by Iron County SAR, and the landowner has said future groups will be prosecuted. Descending it costs access for everyone. What you can legally do is the lower day hike: about 0.8 miles up an old access road into the Hurricane Cliffs, then into the watercourse with repeated stream crossings up to the falls. The aluminum staircase that replaced the old log and rung ladder is safer, but aluminum gets slick when wet or icy. Permits are date specific, non transferable, and cannot be resold, and they sell out in summer, so buy ahead rather than counting on the on site kiosk. Note that RopeWiki still quotes an older price and a lower daily quota than the operator's own site, so trust kanarrafalls.com for the current numbers.
