Inferno Canyon

verified ACA 3B Unknown flood risk Ticaboo, UT

Part of the Dante system on Ticaboo Mesa: tight squeezes, stemming, downclimbs, and a run of potholes near the end that may or may not be holding water.

Anchors are the logistical crux, not the climbing. Several drops sit where there is nothing to tie to, so plan on deadman anchors, and the beta recommends a sandtrap purely to speed things up. The published time runs 3 to 9 hours for two and a half miles and that spread is water: the lower potholes change with the last storm, so carry escape gear rather than assuming they are dry. The approach is a walk from the car to the head, and RopeWiki is blunt that if you find yourself making dangerous or difficult moves getting in, you are in the wrong place.
