ACA 3C III
Moderate flood risk
Nestani, Arcadia
Forty rappels through the north flank of Mount Artemisio, draining to the river Inahos and out to the Argolic Gulf.
Approach is a 10 min, 600 m downslope hike from parking. Emergency exits exist but cross rough terrain. The Nestani road is asphalted and the cleanest access; tracks from Karia and Neohori add time and difficulty. Drains a karst system, so springs can change the character of the descent year to year.
Logistics
| Manager | Open-access Greek public land, no managing reserve |
|---|---|
| Permit | No permit required, no restrictions |
| Time | 6-8 hr descent, plus 10 min approach and 1 min exit |
| Technical | About 40 rappels in four roughly equal sections, mostly 5-7 m with several 15 m drops, longest 35 m. Significant swift-water hazard from numerous underground springs feeding the canyon mid-descent. The final 30 m rappel can develop a siphon at higher flow. ACA grade 3C III (v3a3 IV). |
| Season | Summer, when the river is dry most of the year |
| Flood risk | Moderate: underground springs raise water mid-descent regardless of weather; final-section siphon hazard increases sharply on any recent storm in the upper basin. |
| Vehicle access | Passenger car to parking on asphalted road from Nestani; routes via Karia rougher. |
| Crowd | Local Greek canyoneering community, light international traffic |
| Coordinates | 37.630895, 22.494162 |
