A Triassic limestone gorge inside Sutjeska National Park with roped waterfall descents, natural slides and 39 F water, run in small guided groups out of Tjentište.

Two different Skakavac waterfalls sit in this park and get conflated. The one inside the Hrčavka canyon drops 20 m into the watercourse; the famous Skakavac in the Perućica primeval forest reserve is a separate feature on a different drainage and is not on the canyoning route. Sources disagree on gorge length: Wikipedia gives the river 13.5 km, while operator marketing describes a 17 km gorge. The 1.2 mi figure here is the commercially descended section, which both operators state, not the full river. Rock is Triassic limestone. Bosnian and Serbian language coverage of this canyon is thinner than the English operator marketing, which is unusual for the region and reflects how recently it was opened.

Logistics

ManagerSutjeska National Park (Nacionalni park Sutjeska), established 1962, 160.52 km2, the oldest national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina, inside Republika Srpska. The canyon runs alongside the Perućica strict reserve, 1,434 ha of primeval forest under separate protection and not part of the descent.
PermitGuided in practice. Certified local guides based in Tjentište have run the canyon since the first commercial descents in 2014, and operators (Outdoor Tara, Perućica Base, Kamp Sutjeska) supply wetsuits, harnesses and ropes. Park entry is collected by Sutjeska National Park; no separate canyoning permit or fee was documented, and no source describing an independent self guided descent was located.

Time5-6 hr from the Tjentište basecamp (30 min approach hike, 2-3.5 hr in the canyon, about 10 min out). Perućica Base lists 4-6 hr with roughly 3 hr of that in the water.
TechnicalTriassic limestone gorge on the Hrčavka, the largest left tributary of the Sutjeska, inside Sutjeska National Park. The river springs at 5,150 ft on the Zelengora ridge and falls 3,380 ft over 8.4 mi to its confluence with the Sutjeska at 1,740 ft; the commercial descent works a 1.2 mi section of that. Verticals run up to 33 ft, taken on rope, with natural water slides and deep pools between them. The two operators describe the rope work differently: Outdoor Tara advertises rope descents up to 33 ft, Perućica Base describes a single 26 ft abseil at the end of the descent. Optional jumps of 6, 10 and 16 ft. Water holds 39 to 48 F through summer and wetsuits are issued. No ACA style grade and no topo are published by any source located.
SeasonJune to October per Outdoor Tara, May to October per Perućica Base. Both windows are flow driven rather than permit driven.
Flood riskHigh. A snowmelt and rain fed mountain river dropping 3,380 ft off Zelengora into a gorge narrow enough that sunlight reaches the water only a few hours a day. No upstream impoundment and no public stage gauge were found. The narrows offer no exit once committed, so recent rain on Zelengora should be treated as disqualifying.
Vehicle accessPaved M20 to Tjentište. Operators transfer participants from basecamp toward the canyon entrance, then a 30 minute hike in. Road surface and clearance for independent access to the entrance are not documented.
CrowdSmall guided groups only. Outdoor Tara caps at 8 per guide and 16 total, Perućica Base at 10. First run commercially in 2014 and still low volume. Independent traffic is essentially undocumented.
