Hard Day Harvey Canyon

verified ACA 3B R Unknown flood risk Ticaboo, UT

Unrelenting is the word Climb-Utah uses for the narrows, and the descent backs it up: constant downclimbing, squeezing, stemming and chimneying past Mae West sections too tight to pass at floor level.

The Mae West slots are the whole problem. They pinch to a V that will not let a body through, so you climb over them or bypass them, which means moderate rock climbing moves in a squeeze with a pack. Larger bodies will struggle in several spots and it is worth being honest about that before the drive out. No bolted anchors, no trails, no help nearby: build your own and carry a track. An April 2019 report counted three mandatory rappels and put the last one after the confluence with Good Day Jim, 30 feet off a pinch.
