Cuevas de la Reina

verified Ungraded Unknown flood risk Santa Eulalia la Mayor, Huesca

A short, steep drop through the Guatizalema conglomerates that ends with a jump or rappel straight into the Vadiello Reservoir.

The caves that give this canyon its name are now underwater, submerged when the Vadiello dam raised the reservoir level. Getting out means swimming roughly 200 meters across open water to shore, so this is not the trip for anyone shaky in open water. Chained rappels up to 40 meters carry you down through the conglomerate cliffs beneath Pena San Cosme before that final swim.
