Coin Slot Canyon

verified Ungraded Unknown flood risk Glen Davis, NSW

A narrow sandstone slot above the Coorongooba camping area near Glen Davis, reached by scrambling up an exposed rock ramp before dropping five rappels back down to the valley floor.

Named by Andrew Devitt. Rick Jamieson's guidebook Canyons Near Sydney rates it grade 6 (very difficult) and recommends one 60 metre rope so the pull ropes do not tangle. The real crux is getting up to the start ledge, a rock climb rather than a rappel; the harder of the two lines runs several pitches of grade 10 climbing. Mostly dry, with a couple of shallow pools you can usually edge around, which makes it a solid winter option.
