Canionul Oșelu
verified
Ungraded
Unknown flood risk
Boga (Pietroasa), Bihor County
Seven waterfalls stacked into 800 meters of streambed above Boga, 180 meters of drop on the western edge of the Padiș plateau.
The steepest of the four routes Adventure Center guides in Romania measured as drop against horizontal travel. Cascada Oșelu is mapped in OpenStreetMap at the coordinates given. Cascada Bohodei nearby, 80 meters and the tallest waterfall in the Apuseni, is a separate feature and is not part of this line. No ACA style grade has been published.
Logistics
| Manager | Parcul Natural Apuseni (Apuseni Natural Park). Boga is one of the 66 localities inside the park boundary. |
|---|---|
| Permit | No canyoning permit system is published. Descents are sold as guided trips. |
| Distance | 0.5 |
| Elevation | ~591 ft loss |
| Time | 4-4.5 hr |
| Technical | Seven cascades inside only 800 meters of horizontal development for about 180 meters of total drop. The first is short at roughly 3 meters; the remaining six run a tight 12 to 17 meters each, so the rope work repeats rather than escalating. Adventure Center rates the route easy to medium. |
| Flood risk | Not rated by the operators. Losing 180 meters in 800 meters of streambed means the whole line is steep and the water has nowhere to spread out. A small Apuseni catchment above Boga can spike on an afternoon storm well before it reaches the canyon. |
| Vehicle access | Road access to Boga village below the Padiș plateau. Adventure Center puts the walk from the car to the canyon entry at 700 meters, about 20 minutes. |
| Crowd | The Padiș plateau above pulls heavy hiking traffic in summer, but that traffic goes to the plateau and the caves. The descent itself is guided and low volume. |
| Coordinates | 46.6074, 22.6703 |
