Burrly Canyon

verified ACA 3A Unknown flood risk Hanksville, UT

More downclimbing than almost anything else on the Dirty Devil rim, including a 60 foot elevator style drop and roughly 300 feet of continuous downclimbing before the one mandatory rappel.

The exit is what needs planning, not the descent. You leave the wash after half a mile, work around the tip of a narrow peninsula, and hit a fifth class step that goes at about 5.7 through a crack and chimney. A fixed line placed on the way in removes the problem; without one, an off day there turns serious fast. Strong downclimbers may only rappel once, at the mandatory 80 foot drop under a large chockstone, but rig for two or three. Anchors are chockstones you find, not bolts. Ten minutes due west of the parking area puts you at the head, and high clearance gets you to Burr Point.
