In the Alpujarra above Capileira, Bermejo is really two canyons back to back, the short, tight Tajo Cortes feeding into the longer Barranco Bermejo along the river of the same name.
A higher variant, sometimes called Barranco Jabali or Bermejo superior, sits inside a national park boundary and has been deliberately derigged; it is off limits. The combined Tajo-Bermejo descent runs fourteen rappels, longest 20m, versus five for Tajo Cortes on its own.
